Internet Use Agreement
The following is a document that allows a student to use computers and access the Internet and is provided by the school. This form must be picked up from the office and may not be printed from this website.
Internet Use Agreement
We're very pleased that we are now able to provide Internet access through every classroom and the library/media center. We believe that the computer
networks can be useful in supporting the course curricula, as a tool for student research, and for providing interesting learning experiences. Some of the best proprietary educational software is now Internet based. We want to promote educational excellence by providing our students whatever resources we can make available including the Internet. We also want to do everything possible to protect students from any misuse of electronic information and want all users to avoid inappropriate and illegal interaction with any information service.
Each member of the ABC Unified School District community (whether staff or student) who use any Electronic Information Service must accept personal responsibility for the proper use of the service. Access to these resources is a privilege, not a right. Inappropriate use will result in disciplinary action commensurate with the seriousness of the misuse (up to and including suspension and expulsion). The following represent some of the inappropriate uses that could occur:
- Using a network for commercial advertising
- Plagiarizing or using copyrighted material without permission
- Using the network for political purposes or using the network inconsistent with or in violation of district or school rules
- Viewing or transmitting profanity, pornography, obscence, sexist, or racist material
- Sending or receiving electronic messages contrary to Whitney's expressed and implied code of conduct
- Using the network to access or provide personal information of others that may be inappropriately used
- Harming or destroying equipment or another user
Whitney staff may deny, revoke, or suspend specific user accounts if any of these inappropriate uses occur. Before allowing access to networked computer services, our school and the ABC District require that both student and guardian consent to the terms of this agreement. Your signature indicates that you agree to this legally binding contract.
In exchange for use of Whitney (ABCUSD) equipment and software, we agree to refrain from any misuse of the network as indicated above. We further agree to report any misuse of network services to the teacher in charge or the school administrative staff. We understand that misuse can come in many forms, but is commonly viewed as any message(s) or images sent or received that indicate or suggest pornography, unethical or illegal solicitation, racism, sexism, hateful or derogatory comments, inappropriate language as well as the other uses described in this contract.
As the parent or guardian of this student I have read this agreement and understand that is designed for education purposes. I understand that it is impossible that is is impossible for Whitney High School or the ABC Unified School District to restrict access to all controversial materials and I will not hold the school or district responsible for materials acquired on the network. I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child's use is not in a school setting.
